Hall of Stats

The World Series is over. Now what?

Luckily, I’m here for you. Many people have wondered when I’d get the 2014 stats posted. Well, they’re here! Let this officially start my favorite part of the year—Hall of Fame debate season!

Here are some quick observations I made while updating everything. Please add your own in the comments.

• As expected, no changes were made to the Hall of Stats’ population. The Baseball-Reference WAR formula didn’t undergo any major changes this year, so the biggest differences you’ll see come from 2014 performances.
• As I covered earlier in the season, Albert Pujols cleared the 200 Hall Rating threshold, becoming just the 33rd player to do so. Pujols even passed Jimmie Foxx and Joe Morgan this year.
• Adrian Beltre now has a Hall Rating of 149. If his career ended today, he would rank behind only Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Jeff Bagwell, and Mike Mussina among eligible players not in the Hall of Fame. He is also ahead of both Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson.
• Three players—Mark Buehrle, Robinson Cano, and (finally) Joe Mauer—crossed the 100 Hall Rating threshold this year. David Wright came close but had to settle for a 97.
• Youngsters Felix Hernandez (87) and Clayton Kershaw (86) could pass 100 next season.
• How about Mike Trout? He is now up to 61 after just three full seasons. He has now passed fourteen Hall of Famers. Reminder: he is 23 years old.
