Hall of Stats Inducts Five, Removes Two

This year, five candidates hit the Hall of Fame ballot—Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas, Mike Mussina, and Jeff Kent—with Hall Ratings of 100 or (in most cases significantly) better. Only Maddux, Glavine, and Thomas were elected.
Unfortunately, because five went into the Hall of Stats and only three entered the Hall of Fame, the Hall of Stats must cut two players from its ranks: Frank Tanana and Nap Rucker. That’s the way life goes when you live on the south side of the Top 200 in Hall Rating. With just 211 Hall of Famers (and the formula undergoing tweaks from time to time), those last few slots are volatile.
The new “final man” in the Hall of Stats—he of the exactly 100 Hall Rating—is Billy Pierce. The Hall of Fame had better keep inducting players, though. After Pierce is cut, we’re looking at Thurman Munson and Sandy Koufax next. I feel Pierce is a borderline guy, but Munson and Koufax? I’d hate to see either of them go.
